Other windows will give out different, empty room views that with the same sort of aesthetics. One of them will also reveal stairs going up. Nothing suspicious can be seen from the outside and there are no other doors visible around the mansion.

She'll ask Homura if she can spot anything suspicious- sure would be useful if either of them were Winter aligned wouldn't it?- and see if her Soul Gem reacts to anything. If not, she'll prepare for them to slip in through the front door, Soul Gem at the ready.

Soul Gem remains normal. No witches here.

Once they slip through the front door and they're properly inside, the door closes and won't open again. It's magically locked. And the fireplace lights up once the door is locked, giving them some light in the otherwise dim room.

A clock is ticking somewhere.

If only the Soul Gem could detect regular ghosts...she's a little frightened by the door locking behind them, but whilst she could try shooting the lock, that would defeat the whole purpose of coming here, wouldn't it?

...She'll go to check out the fireplace- anything on the mantlepiece?- first, then look around the room to try and find this clock.

The fireplace looks like a very normal fireplace, but there are pictures of some very fancy looking natives there. Their faces are obscured, but otherwise they look like they're upper-class. There's also some candle remains that have burned out a long time ago.

The ticking seems to be coming from the room next to this one.

Let's peek into the next room then! So far nothing seems too untoward, so she at least doesn't look too frightened just yet!

In the next room there's a clock. A traditional grandfather clock. That's what has been the source of the ticking.

But for some reason time seems to be going backwards in the clock.

And there's movement to Mami's right. Look and whatever it was is gone. Now the movement is on the left and gone again when looked.

Well that is troubling, and trying to close her eyes to shoot it seems reckless indeed! Time for a Magical Girl Transformation sequence or two- and it looks like this will be a job for Homura stopping time to freeze that thing in place!

Homura may be able to stop time for a short period of time these days, but it's enough to determined the creature's appearance; A Shadow Moth. This creature takes the shadows of people to become bigger and faster. Now that Homura has managed to see it, it will turn into a giant mothman and attack them with shadow-y vines!

If hit by the vines, characters would start doing everything backwards. That would explain the grandfather clock going backwards, we suppose! Either way, the Moth's goal is to eat them for even more energy, but it's not too difficult to defeat. It's just very, very fast.

Well that's unpleasant isn't it? Mami does her very best to make sure she doesn't look frightened, and summon up some muskets to shoot at it, hoping she can coordinate with Homura's brief time freezes. She'll use her ribbons to try and keep the vines away from her and Homura in the meantime and see how that does.

As long as the girls work together and use Homura's time stopper abilities to slow the monster down and Mami's ribbons to hold the vines at bay, they're able to defeat it! Upon defeat the grandfather clock also starts going the right direction again and it opens a secret drawer and reveals a small treasure box inside.

Would you like to open it?

Well it would be rude to pry into someone else's things- but this place is abandoned, so it wouldn't hurt to take a little peak would it...

(Yes, she's going to take a look.)

Inside there's a locket. There's no picture or anything inside and it seems old.

If they decide to take it, they may and nothing will happen. Later, however, if something it put into it the locket becomes alive and will grow in size to eat whoever put something inside the locket. So it's very, very much a cursed locket.

If left there, that is also fine and nothing happens.

She'll ask Homura what she thinks about it- but well... she's not the sort to just steal someone's jewellery to sell. Sure is weird that it's empty though.

With that, there doesn't seem to be anything else suspicious in this room or on this floor in general.

What will they do next?
