Shadow listens to the two sides of the story. One that perhaps the mermaids were intent on expansion but never murder without cause, the other of a mermaid who appeared and disappeared without warning. The Siren King is being quite reasonable that the murderer may not have been one of the mermaids at all. When the chaos starts, Shadow is quick to speak.
