As long as Sabo keeps the attacks coming, the monster will be distracted. It can only see into one direction, so Lumine can definitely sneak past it.
The very dusty text on the stone under (over?) the orb is upside down and says: qɹO ʎʇᴉʌɐɹפ ǝɥ┴ (The Gravity Orb). If removed, the gravity will reset in the room and crash everyone down into the ground. It might help make the fight with the nautilus beast easier as it can no longer float without the gravity orb.
Also if the orb is removed it will separate into 6 different orbs that can be given to other characters; it can then be used to make a circle around the that's devoid of gravity (a 5 x 5 metres wide circle). Of course when used at the same time the area is as big as the orbs put together.
