Preparations they might have: Rider hid out there for around a week as Gorgon back in summer, so knows a little of the local area/flora and fauna, and presumably had a safe-ish clearing carved out for herself back then.
She's partly going back to see if there's any destruction left over from her rampage, and to take a look at anything odd she might have spotted during that time. But also, well, it's an excuse to think through things whilst they explore.
