OTHER NPCS
LOGS | NETWORK | OOC | MEMES | NAVIGATION
This page contains information on NPCs that occasionally appear through exploring the game setting. They can't be regularly contacted which is why they have their own page.
Good/Neutral Alignment
Airship Station Ladies (All Segments)
Four old ladies living in the Airship Stations in the middle of Segments. Rumor has it they're all witches, but no one has confirmed it. All of them have a lot of cats of different kinds.
Barnabus, the Bad Mecha Employee (Nightwake)
Brother of Bartholomew who doesn't have any gift in magic so he devotes himself to technology. Unfortunately, like his brother, he's attracted to failure.
Bartholomew, the Lousy Mage (Nightwake)
A mage who always goes 'go big or go home' on spells and messes them up somehow. Usually blamed for any magical mishaps.
Frogsuke (Autumn Segment)
A frog that's the size of a small child looks a lot like a ninja frog. He wears a bandanna around his neck and a pouch in which he carriers his "ninja tools". Frogsuke was first encountered in the Forest of Courage, where he asked the help of an otherworlder (Zelgadis) to rescue his frog students from the Abandoned Well. After that he left with his students. | first encounter thread
Gary & Buttercup (Nightwake)
Gary is a worker in the Research Center who brings his pet cat, Buttercup, to work more often than he should. The cat loves doing what cats love doing, which is knocking things off table or onto expensive equipment. (reference)
The Witches Three (currently Summer Segment)
Three witches living in the House in a Tree. They're all retired witches who just want to chill, but will return to action when 'the time is right'. (here)
Criminals
Cups Gang (Nightwake)
A self-proclaimed notorious crime gang, who is actually a laughing stock and hasn't done anything remarkable yet. Usually their crimes are very petty and not so serious, even if They Try. Their graffiti also has a typo. (Introduced in April 2025 TDM).
Nightshade (Nightwake)
A group devoted to destruction and Darkness. Their current mission is to somehow find a way to free The Doctor from jail. They're able to use mind control on their enemies.
Organized Crime (Nightwake City, Underground Mall)
Organized crime groups that hide and work in the lower floors of the Underground Mall. All of them have a different area of crime and they usually don't get along (save for Clubs, who help all of them with their specialities). The Casino, however, is a place where they don't start trouble for each other.
Diamonds are thieves who work on illegal trade and smuggling of various goods. They're the best at getting items that are hard to get for a high price. They manage the card games at the Casino and will send characters to do tasks for them if they lose.
Spades are assassins that can be hired to kill anyone for a high price. They manage the roulette games at the Casino and will attempt to murder a character who loses in their games (or given them a 1/6 chance to survive by playing russian roulette).
Clubs are cleaners who take care of crime scenes before cops arrive in the scene and make sure evidence disappears. They manage the pool tables and darts area of the Casino and will simply make characters clean their side of the place if they lose.
Hearts
The Auctives (or "The Harvesters") (Nightwake, Underground)
The Auctives is a cult that has been unable to utilize touch energy without having to suck it out of others. They command corrupted magics, and have no respect for the Otherworlders or inhabitants of the world above. Their methods have always remained underground, but they crave and explore those who can harness touch energy and have existed for a few centuries and have always remained unseen and somewhat small in number. They aren't above committing atrocities to get the touch energy- they're not necessarily vampires, but their methods to obtain information for their experiments have no limits.
Their appearance seems normal, if slightly pale and grey-toned skin, which they cover with makeup to make themselves look normal. Their pupils, in particular, are odd, and glassy. A lot of their attire will involve some kind of grey hood.
They have been destroyed since end of August 2023, with the remnants taken cared of by The "Wizard" in September 2023 event. They were originally part of a Player Plot that was made a cameo in the normal plot.
Villains
Icarus (Unknown)
Mentioned by the ghost named Margaret. (here).
Information from Herakles: Icarus is a new recruit like Herakles, but something went wrong with the darkness manipulation ability immediately when she got it. Because of this she's been in isolation until her 'mind settles'. This is also the reason Herakles doesn't know a lot about her, other than she definitely didn't look a lot like a human when he last saw her in passing.
The Doctor (Unknown)
The villain behind "portal" incidents, caught by Olwen and otherworlders and currently comatose in jail with his special magic protecting him from outside influences. Tried to frame Sawyer as the villain. (Introduced in January 2024 event)
Information from Herakles: He possesses a strong mind, which is why we haven't been able to dive into it or wake him up. According to Herakles two of his skills are dream manipulation and mind control, but he's unsure of the third.
The Knight (Unknown)
A mysterious tall and bulky man wearing a black armor. Their sword is used with two hands and can shoot black lasers (they were witnessed fighting monsters, namely Weapon Slimes, with ease). Whenever they leave an area they seem to teleport away, but they always ride a black, demonic, horse. Has been spotted burying dark rods near the barrier previously. (here).
The Pierrot (Unknown)
A very tall man with dark brown, long hair and wore simple, green robes. He has piercing green eyes as well and when he smiles, people feel uneasy. He also had a big ring on his right index finger. Also carries a wooden staff with some sort of a dreamcatcher like talisman on it. Responsible for staging the Tragedy. Mentioned by a ghost named Elliot (here).
Information from Herakles: No one knows about them a lot, but it was them who instigated the Tragedy of Greed. One of their skills is the ability to grant people powers but also take them away. It is unknown if they can give someone else's abilities to another. According to Herakles they're the most dangerous one of the remaining group.
The Scientist (Unknown)
A mysterious scientist responsible for the "Vampirebear" project. (reference). Has recently been linked to the Crystal mines incident (January 2025).
Information from Herakles: As her name suggests, she's big on doing experiments, which include the fusions we saw in the Darkness and some previous monsters we've seen, such as the Vampirebear. Surprising no one one of her abilities is Monster Fusions, but according to Herakles she's also good at technomancy and alchemy.
The Wizard (Unknown)
A mysterious person responsible for the kidnapping of the Fairy Queen and for framing sirens as the culprits. No one has been able to give a proper description of them, just that they were ease to trust and believe until they showed their true intentions. (Introduced in September 2023 event).
Information from Herakles: The Wizard and The Knight come from the same world, apparently. Herakles doesn't know much about them other than that they usually do everything together. What we know about. He's also been appearing with The Scientist quite often.
The Wizard can shapeshift and also use necromancy.

While still going about his casual membership in the gang and trying not to stick out too much.
It's been suggested that he might hear something new from them in April--

Hijikata has offered to lend him some of his ghosts -- if one of them possessed someone he knows as a more senior member, would they be able to glean anything more?
ALSO SORRY OOC QUESTION TIME... this almost looks event/player plot big so I'm a little lost on how to handle it! Should I be sharing this with other players (Katsura would likely only tell his castmates/trusted people and the leaders themselves at first, but I think between the three of them they have enough CR that most PCs would reasonably be able to hear about it through the grapevine) to potentially organize some guard effort, or is this more future happenstance flavor text where me saying that he'd snitch to Olwen already accomplishes what is needed and this is something that is planned to be a part of a future game event?

The reply for Zura is "Don't worry about it, you're not high ranking enough". A ghost would be able to possess an senior and tell him that it will happen sometime during end of April/beginning of May, at the middle of the night during the dead of night.
Because of Katsura finding out about it, there's a high chance for a Player Plot at the end of April/Beginning of May (whichever is the player reference). It would involve stopping the attack and making sure the leaders are safe and sound.
You could, for example, gather all the trusted CR into this player plot, but also have opportunities for people outside CR get involved (they do happen in public spaces, albeit likely during the dead of night).
Had Katsura not stumbled in on this information, it would have been an event, so good job Zura :) You prevented chaos.
However, it's more than likely that they will figure out the leak of their plans was Katsura and he would be on their shitlist from then on.

Is this something that I would be writing up myself (in which case, would I be getting more information about the exact happenings/what actions would be successful and/or freedom to describe NPC involvement) or would it be more of a collaborative effort with the mods (in which case, can I suggest/pitch some ideas for it?) Should I take this to the player plot post?
And yes obviously once stuff is going down anybody would be able to join in, I meant that he would try to keep it more lowkey during the more initial/planning phase ICly, since he wouldn't trust the network. But again anybody who OOCly wants to should reasonably be able to ICly find out and take part.
Also I'm fine with the gang figuring out it was Zura -- in fact I was going to suggest that they could grab him once he walks in like he's perfectly innocent, giving PCs another potential challenge in the same event/plot to also rescue him, before he's thrown into the Barrier or something (but obviously if that wouldn't work well with the rest it doesn't need to happen).

End of April works fine, as they would move/plan things to go about during the busy season of the Arts Festival.
That works fine, re: Zura consequences. The group would be very much looking for revenge.

I'll try to do so within a week since it would be nice to give people at least a week's heads up but I'll poke you if something goes awry.
And cool! He can be their scapegoat for a little bit 😌
