They might manage to find places in the mansion to hide from the monster. It can't go through the doors or walls but it's an old mansion so there's a lot of cracks and such it could sneak in from, but there are rooms they could potentially be safe in. There's just not much in terms of supplies.

There are some furniture that they could put in front of doors and windows to further help with sealing the exits.
