They'll probably wait longer than strictly necessary (but not long enough to pass out from the lack of oxygen), and then perform the awkward dance of getting the armor off of Eren mid-air.

Plummeting back to Earth isn't a huge problem, since Eren is going to turn into a dragon mid-descent, catch Levi and soar back toward the city. If anything happens to prevent the transformation, Levi will break their fall with a narrowly timed burst of gas from his gear.
