Unfortunately, the tongue has hardened enough for a knife to not be able to cut through it, but fire does soften it back so it can be removed. Hijikata's name also disappears from tombstone (for now).

The cell is now silent, though, and the tombstone completely blank.

If they leave the cell they can see stairs going down. Strange were those there before...?
