There does seem to be used syringes of some kind and basic (partially used) medical kits. Otherwise there's just the second set of stairs that takes them back to the vampirebear room - just on the Summer side of the castle.

Once they open the hatch there's a rather moist hallway that goes on for a while towards the north. It's hard to say how long the hallway goes for, but it just goes straight. It's also dark so they'll need a light source if they want to proceed.
